Save the date poster checklist: what to include

By Nilav Ventures. Published . 1 min read.

Quick answer: A save the date poster should show the couple's names, the date, the city, and a note that the full invitation will follow. Send it two to three months ahead, or earlier if many guests must travel.

A save the date poster tells guests to keep a date free before the full invitation is ready. It is short, visual and easy to forward.

What to include

  • The couple’s names, in the language or languages your guests read.
  • The wedding date, with the day of the week.
  • The city or town. The full venue can wait for the invitation.
  • A line such as “Invitation to follow”.
  • Optionally, a contact number of a family member.

Leave out long schedules and dress codes. Those belong in the full invitation.

When to send

Two to three months before the wedding suits most guests. If many people will travel from other cities, or if the date falls near a major festival or holiday period, send it earlier so they can plan leave and tickets.

Sizes that work on phones

  • A tall poster around 1080 by 1350 pixels fits WhatsApp status and Instagram feed.
  • A square 1080 by 1080 pixels is safe for most places.
  • Provide a PDF too, so family members who like to print can do so.

Poster checklist before you share

  1. Names and spellings checked by a family elder.
  2. Date, day and month match the calendar.
  3. Text is large enough to read on a small phone.
  4. Contrast is strong, so the text is clear in sunlight.
  5. Tamil and English text both display correctly.
  6. File size is small enough to send on mobile data.

From poster to invitation

Many families send the poster first, then the full invitation link a few weeks later. A matching style across both makes them feel like one story. Our eDesign posters start at ₹99 each, and can match any invitation design.
