Invitation Wording

WhatsApp wedding invitation messages you can copy

By Nilav Ventures. Published . 4 min read.

Quick answer: Keep the message to four short lines: a personal greeting, the date and city, one sentence of warmth, then the link last. Write a different version for elders, friends, colleagues and relatives abroad, because the same paste sent to everyone is easy to spot.

Most of what I read online about wedding invitation messages gives you one big list of fifty lines, all in the same polished voice, and you are left to guess which one sounds like you. So here is a smaller set, sorted by who you are writing to, with a note on why each works. Change the names, the date, and anything that does not sound like you.

A few ground rules before the samples:

  • Link last. People read the first line in the notification. Make it the warm one.
  • Say the date and city in the text. Even though the link has them. It helps someone searching their chat history later.
  • One message, one ask. The ask is “please come”. Do not also ask for a reply, a gift preference and a travel plan.

For elders and close family

Vanakkam Anita aunty. We are so happy to tell you that Meera and Aarav’s wedding will be on 14 February in Madurai. We would love your blessings in person. The timings and map are here: [link]

Why it works: it starts with the greeting they expect and says “in person”. If a personal visit is the custom, say you will come by, and send the link after.

For friends

Okay, official news: Meera and Aarav are getting married on 14 Feb in Madurai and you are NOT allowed to miss it. All the details, the events and where to stay are here: [link]

Why it works: it sounds like you talk. If your group is more reserved, tone it down. The point is to match how you normally write to them.

For colleagues and wider contacts

Hello Rajesh, I’m getting married on 14 February in Madurai and would be glad if you could join us. The invitation with all the details is here: [link]

Why it works: short, polite, no pressure. If your office is far away, say you understand if travel is hard.

For relatives and friends abroad

Hi Priya, the wedding is on 14 February in Madurai (morning muhurtham, around 9 am IST). The link shows the timings in your own time zone and you can add each event to your calendar: [link]. It would mean a lot if you could make it, and if you cannot, we will video-call you in.

Why it works: it deals with the two questions overseas guests have, which are what time is that for me, and can I still be part of it. See inviting guests abroad for more.

When there are several events

Hi Karthik, here is the full plan for the wedding week: engagement on 12 Feb, muhurtham on 14 Feb, reception on 14 Feb evening. Everything is in one place: [link]. Come for all of it or whichever you can manage.

Good for family who may want to attend only some events. The “whichever you can manage” line takes pressure off.

For a reminder, two weeks before

A small reminder that the wedding is in two weeks. The link has the map and the parking note: [link]. See you soon!

Short, useful, and it brings the link back to the top of the chat.

Small update: the reception now starts at 7:30 pm instead of 7. The invitation link has the new time, so no need to do anything.

If your invitation is a page, this one line is all you need, because the link already shows the new time.

Check the preview before you send to anyone

When you paste a link, WhatsApp builds a small card from the page: a picture, a title and a line of text. On our invitations the preview shows your names, the date and the city, so you can see what guests will see. Send the link to yourself first. If a preview looks plain or wrong, fix it before 200 people see it.

Sending to a large list

If you have a lot of people to reach, a WhatsApp broadcast list sends each person an individual message, so replies come to you privately. The catch is that people need your number saved to receive it. For people who do not, a direct message is the only way. Tamil wording

If you want the message itself in Tamil or in both languages, have a native reader check it. A sentence that is grammatical can still sound stiff or wrong for the occasion. I have collected careful examples in Tamil wedding invitation wording samples, and the wording helper can draft options you can then show to someone who reads Tamil every day.

Quick questions

How long should a WhatsApp wedding invitation message be?

Under 60 words. The link carries the details, so the message only needs to feel personal and say what the link is.

Should I send the invitation as an image or as a link?

A link, if your invitation is a web page. Images get compressed and cannot be tapped for a map. If you also have a printed card, send a photo of it only as a second message.

What time of day is best to send it?

Mid morning or early evening. Late night messages to a long list tend to feel careless, and people may not read them for a day.

Can I put the guest's name in the link?

On our studio route we can prepare a link per guest that opens with a greeting such as Dear Lakshmi Aunty. It is only a greeting and does not track anyone.
